Safety Precautions To Be Taken After Getting A Tattoo:
- Do not remove the bandage from your tattoo till you reach home. It is essential for keeping air-borne bacteria away
- Keeping it clean is the first and foremost condition of taking care of a tattoo. Dab clean it with gentle antibacterial liquid or lukewarm water with a paper towel as soon as you take off the bandage. Stay away from rubbing. Rather, pat it dry with a paper towel softly. Make this an everyday practice
- Once you have cleaned the area, apply a good antibiotic ointment containing vitamin A and vitamin D at least 3 to 4 times a day. Generous application of this is required for keeping infections at bay and speeding up the healing process. Does not re wrap it and avoid sleeping on the tattoo to prevent it from sticking.
- Keep your hands off as hands collect most of Bactria and will deposit it to your skin which is most common cost of infection.
- Before taking shower apply waterproof cream like petroleum jelly. Do not let the tattooed skin get in touch with soap or shampoo during that time. However, keep away from Neosporin as it can lead to serious allergies.
- Try to avoid sun exposure as much as possible for the first few weeks. It is recommended that you use a sun block of 30 SPF or more while going out in the sun.
- Swimming should be avoided until your tattoo gets healed completely the water itself can cause minor to major infections, damaging your tattoo badly. During healing process do not Gym or do stretching exercises.
- Wear loose clothes that do not rub against your tattooed skin. You should choose the fabric carefully, so that you do not perspire a lot.
- Your tattoo may peel or scab during the period of healing. It can also get extremely itchy as the scabs starts to flake off. However, never ever pick or scratch the scabs. Rather, opt for warm moist compresses. Applying it 3 to 4 times a day (at least for 5 minutes each) will make the scabs softer and help them come off automatically. Use thin layer of medicine, as skin need oxygen to heal properly.
- Before applying medicine clean your tattoo with semi wet cloth to remove dust.
- Do not use multiple creams on your tattoo it may cause chemical reaction between the ointments.If tiny bumps, rash like symptoms or fluid seem to appear, clean tattoo immediately and leave it dry for awhile this is something cause by too much medication and smothering of the tattoo.Do not eat very starchy food like potatoes, mango, high protein products, chana, non-vegetarian or drink alcohol. This may infect or aggravate you tattoo as these increase the heat in your body that may erupt as boils.
- Eat fresh fruits, vegetables and take some multivitamin supplements during the healing process.
- A new tattoo will look flaky and gross for the first week. After the scab falls off, there will be a white scaly layer on top of the tattoo. This is dead skin and it will peel off in couple of days.
